Black History Month Celebrations at Peartree Care Home

Homes across the Excelcare family have been honouring Black History Month throughout October, and reflecting on the achievements, culture and contributions of Black people in the UK and across the globe.

The team at Peartree Care Home in Sydenham have organised a variety of different activities, all in preparation for their big Black History Month party.

During the month, the team planned some Black History Month themed arts and crafts activities. The residents created Black History Month posters that were dedicated to raising awareness and collating information about prominent Black people throughout history.

This was a great activity, providing education as well as entertainment, as the people living at Peartree paid respect to everyone in the posters. The posters were then displayed as part of the decoration for Peartree’s Black History Month party on the 20th of October.

Residents, their families and team members gathered on Thursday 20th to join the Black History Month party at the home. Guests enjoyed a delicious selection of African and Caribbean food that was lovingly prepared by the home’s kitchen team, as well as performances from an African drummer and The Barbershop Group. Peartree team member, Donovan also performed for everyone, singing a selection of songs by Bob Marley.

Black History Month is such an important month, especially for the people living at Peartree. There are many people living at the home from different backgrounds, so it was a time for everyone to come together and celebrate the greatness of all different Black cultures.
