Banbury Care Home Named ‘Outstanding’ In CQC Report

Featherton House care home is celebrating its fourth ‘Good’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), including a second ‘Outstanding’ in one of the five grading categories.

The Banbury-based home, on Chapel Square, Deddington, was given the highly coveted ‘Outstanding’ rating in the Is the Service Caring? category, repeating the success of its 2015 inspection, where it achieved the same accreditation.

Overall, the service was deemed ‘Good’ by the independent regulator, having previously received high praise at each of its last three inspections. The CQC judges a care facility on its safety, effectiveness, level of care, responsiveness and leadership.

Comments in the report from the inspector included: “The service remained exceptionally caring. There was a calm and extremely peaceful ambience with a warm and friendly welcome. People complimented the staff and the service using terms such as ‘it’s like home’ and ‘absolutely fantastic,’” and “People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible.”

Comments from residents and their family members included: “The food is excellent all of the time and if you don’t like it they’ll do something else, they did me an omelette no problem – it was delicious,” “They should get 10 stars here, it’s absolutely fantastic – the whole set up” and “Here, it’s just like being at home. I can’t fault this place at all, they do everything.”

Holly Rose, Home Manager at Featherton House, said: “We are delighted to have received another positive inspection, and to receive a second ‘Outstanding’ is a fantastic achievement. We won’t be resting on our laurels, though, and are always looking at ways to improve. The comments from CQC, as well as our residents and their family members, are very humbling and testament to the hard work of our caring and committed team.

“Our number one priority is the care of our residents and hopefully we will continue to be recognised for this in the future.”

Kay Paul, Regional Manager for the South East, said: “This is a fantastic result for Featherton House, and it is a reflection on how hard Holly and the staff are working. The whole team is dedicated to making sure residents feel safe and comfortable at the home, and this recognition proves what a great job they are doing.”
