Award-Winning Student Nurse Praised By Care Home

A nursing student, who spent a six week university placement at a care home in south Wales, has been commended for her dedication with two university awards.

Ambitious Daniella Crawford, a student at the University of South Wales, spent six weeks at Cwm Celyn Care Home in Blaina earlier this year as part of her third-year studies. And thanks to her hard work received the ‘Mentor Choice Award’ and ‘Mental Health Field Award’ at the university’s ‘Student Showcase Awards’.

Home manager, Simon Morgan, praised Ms Crawford highly, saying: “Daniella was an excellent addition to the team at Cwm Celyn. She immersed herself from the start, and had such a professional manner and attitude to everything – she was a great student!”

She enjoyed her placement at Cwm Celyn so much that she returned to work there during the rest of her studies at university.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the home and Simon,” said Daniella Crawford. “I would not have received this nomination if it wasn’t for their amazing service and knowledge. I’ve learnt so many new skills, thanks in no small part to the encouragement of everyone in the home.”

Shaw healthcare provides care for individuals in nursing and residential homes, hospitals, supported living environments and domiciliary care schemes.
