Annual Duck Races at The Cedars Raises Money For Charity
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at The Cedars Care Home to enjoy their annual Summer Fete that was held in the home’s grounds on 27thJune; in order to raise money for Re-Engage, a charity that combats social isolation in the over 65’s by providing free volunteer led services including telephone calls, activity groups and tea parties.
The Cedars hosted a variety of artisan craft stalls, tombola and raffle for everyone to enjoy, including handmade jewellery, local honey and pet accessories. We were also joined by ‘The Little Filly’ Catering who provided delicious burgers and pizzas to the guests. All this fun framed the main event: the rubber duck races on the river.
The Duck Races were expertly run by David and Carolyn Fawcett, Dr Clive Cole and Terry Dewey, supported by volunteers from the Carer’s Sitter Service, Dementia Support South Lincs and Option B Bereavement Group; who ran over twenty races in the river eagerly watched by visitors all hoping theirs was the winning duck! The event culminated in a live performance by local vintage singer Alan Jackson, who sang a variety of popular songs that staff, visitors and residents sang and danced along to.
Staff at The Cedars made everyone feel welcome and were delighted to see different generations having fun together, and our younger guests were thrilled with the addition of a paddling pool and sponge throwing game to our giant outdoor games, which proved very popular and a welcome relief from the heat!
Resident Dorothy Inkley said, “It was a lovely day. The weather was wonderful, and the entertainment was really good- Alan Jackson is one of my favourites and he sang the ‘Telephone Song’- my absolute favourite! Thank you to the team, I know a lot of hard work went into it to make it special.”
Rebecca Aldred, Senior General Manager at the home, said: “Staff at The Cedars Care Home are dedicated to making sure that the home is a hub of the local community, and this event, along with all their hard work, has definitely paid off. We would like to extend a huge thank you to David and Carolyn Fawcett with Terry Dewey and Dr Clive Cole for once again running the ever-popular duck races. It’s one of the highlights of our calendar! We are very pleased to announce that we raised over £850, with more money coming in!
The fete was a resounding success!”
