A Milestone To Remember, Fairlawn Helps To Celebrate 60th Wedding Anniversary

MilestoneIt is a special time of year for local couple Muriel and Dennis Hornes, who were delighted to recently celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary in style.

Muriel and Dennis, originally from Hayes in Middlesex, met at their local community centre where they both enjoyed frequent square dancing sessions. Whilst courting, the couple enjoyed hiking, cycle rides and table tennis before marrying in 1956 at St Mary’s Church in Hayes.

The couple moved to Ferndown in 1999, where Dennis found a keen interest in bowling due to living near to Ferndown bowling green and Muriel continued to pursue her hobbies of gardening, knitting and sewing.

Before Dennis came to reside at Fairlawn care home in 2015, the couple also enjoyed attending organ recitals, taking weekends away in their motorvan, model making and attending Watford FC football matches.

Muriel and Dennis have three children, Frank, Alan and Lucy and one grandson.  Their son Frank and daughter- in-law Madeline even celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary on the same day as Muriel and Dennis and were delighted to celebrate the occasion alongside the couple.

Madeline’s parents, Florence and John have also recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and were thrilled to also attend on the day as longtime family friends.

Staff at Care South’s Fairlawn care home were thrilled to help celebrate Muriel and Dennis’ six decade milestone with a wonderful family photoshoot of the three couples at the home and of course admired their card from the Queen.

Suzanne Kaye, Acting Home Manager at Care South’s Fairlawn, said: “We were delighted to be able to help celebrate Muriel and Dennis’ special day with them at Fairlawn, it’s been fantastic to hear more about their lives together. At Care South, we work hard to make sure our residents celebrations are really special events – especially milestone anniversaries like these.”
