A Journey To Remember: Care Homes Join Memory Walks In Aid Of Alzheimer’s Society

Residents and staff at care homes across the North East have raised hundreds of pounds for the Alzheimer’s Society by attending a number of sponsored ‘Memory Walks’.

The events, which run at various locations across the country each Autumn, aim to increase awareness about the condition and raise money to provide support for people living with dementia and aid research into finding a cure.

A trio of Hill Care homes in the North East; Queens Meadow, The Gables and Mandale House each took part in the walks, raising hundreds of pounds for the charity.

Mandale house, based in Stockton-On-Tees completed a three-mile walk and wheelchair push around the Tees Barrage.

Those who took part enjoyed scenic views and friendly conversation as they made their way around the route, and felt a great sense of achievement when they arrived at the finish line.

Queens Meadow, in Hartlepool and The Gables in Middlesbrough joined together for their Memory Walk, with staff and residents from each of the homes making their way around Stewart Park in the Marton area of Middlesbrough.

The care homes have so far raised over £200 collectively with more donations set to roll in, all of which help the Alzheimer’s Society care for people living with the disease and fund vital research.

Liz Jones, Customer Relations Officer at Hill Care said: “We were delighted that so many of the residents and staff within our homes volunteered to take part in the Memory Walks.

“As well a great day out enjoying picturesque parks and scenic river routes for both staff and residents a significant amount of money was raised for an incredibly important cause.

“The Alzheimer’s Society is a charity that is close to our hearts, as some residents at our homes are living with dementia and we work hard to champion awareness of the condition and the care that it requires. Each of the homes should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”
