109 Birthday Celebration For Local Care Home Resident
Celebrations were in full swing at Kingswood Court Care Home as resident Joyce marked her incredible 109th birthday.
In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, this year’s celebrations were a small private gathering at the home, where she was joined by fellow residents, family, friends and staff. Guests enjoyed a special birthday cake created by the home’s chef, Lee, while Joyce also received hundreds of birthday cards, including a congratulatory card from The King and Queen in recognition of her remarkable milestone.
Born in Somerset in 1917, Joyce began her working life in a glove factory, where she met her husband, Stan. She later worked as an accountant at Babycham and was among the first people to use a Comptometer, one of the world’s earliest mechanical calculators.
Speaking about her special day, Joyce said: “I don’t feel 109. I’m so glad so many people have celebrated with me.” she also said to the younger generation, ‘’never stop living your life’’.
Attila Lengyel, General Manager of Barchester Kingswood Court added: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone. Joyce is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more as she breaks into her next century.”
