106th Celebrations For Local Care Home Resident
Celebrations have been in full swing at Boroughbridge Manor, as one of its residents reaches her 106th birthday in style.
Hetty was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received a telegram from the King in recognition of her landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef, James.
Hetty was born in North Yorkshire and worked in a chemist before being called up for war work. Over the years she has had various roles including working as a ward maid where her compassion and care for others shone through before coming to Boroughbridge Manor, where she is enjoying a new chapter of her life.

Among those relatives attending was Hetty’s daughter and son in law, Pat, who played host for the afternoon to lots of guests. Speaking about her mother’s 106th birthday she said: “Hetty is and has been a fantastic mother and friend to so many over the past hundred and six years, and it’s wonderful to be with her on this very special day to say just how proud she makes us feel.”
Susan Carter, General Manager of Barchester Boroughbridge Manor added: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone. Hetty is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more as she breaks into her next century.”
