Work Begins On 105-Bed Care Home As Part Of Staffordshire Care Village Development
Work is underway on a new 105-bed care home in Stone, Staffordshire, marking the first phase of an ambitious development that will create a new care village while preserving the heritage of one of the town’s historic sites.
The purpose-built St Mary’s Care Home will provide residential, nursing, palliative and dementia care, offering modern, high-quality facilities designed to meet the changing needs of older people in Stone and the wider Staffordshire community.
It will be operated by specialist care provider HCMS, which also manages the existing St Mary’s Care Home on the site. The current home will remain fully operational throughout construction, ensuring continuity of care for residents until the new facilities are ready.
The second phase will see the regeneration of the magnificent 19th-century St Dominic’s Convent, transforming the historic building into independent retirement living accommodation.
A third phase will involve the development of St Margaret’s Residential, a new block of senior living apartments, completing the vision for a community where older people can access different levels of accommodation and support as their needs change.
For the owners, St Mary’s Care Home (Stone) Ltd, the project is the culmination of a long-term ambition to build on the established ethos and quality of care at St Mary’s, while creating a lasting legacy for the local community.
The development will also honour the spirit of the Dominican Congregation, whose commitment to caring for the community has played an important role in the history of the site.
Cavaleri Developments will oversee the construction and delivery of all three phases.
Mariano Cavaleri, director of Cavaleri Developments, said: “This is an incredibly important milestone for a project which has been years in the making and represents a shared vision for the future of care and retirement living in Stone.
“Our ambition is to create something very special – a care village which combines outstanding facilities with the warmth, compassion and sense of community that have always been at the heart of St Mary’s.
“We are also very conscious of the history of this site and the legacy of the Dominican Congregation. This development is about respecting that heritage while ensuring the site continues to serve the people of Stone and Staffordshire for generations to come.
“The groundbreaking for the new care home is an exciting first step towards bringing that vision to life.”
Kevin Groombridge, executive chairman of HCMS, said: “We are delighted to be playing such an important role in this landmark development and to be involved from the very beginning of this exciting new chapter for St Mary’s.
“The new home will provide a modern, purpose-built environment in which our teams can deliver the highest standards of residential, nursing, dementia and palliative care, while retaining the personal approach and strong values that make St Mary’s such a special place.
“Importantly, the existing care home will continue operating throughout the building programme. Residents and their families can be reassured that their care, wellbeing and daily routines will remain our absolute priority.
“This is about much more than a new building. It is about creating a sustainable future for high-quality care in Stone, providing greater choice for older people and their families, and building on a proud tradition of supporting the local community.”
