Wiltshire Care Home Residents Welcome Employees From Nationwide Building Society For A Day Of Food, Fun & Film

SAM_0891A Wiltshire care home welcomed 14 Nationwide employees for a day of volunteering and quality time with residents on Wednesday 9th September.

Over 40 residents, their families and carers from Ridgeway House in Royal Wootton Bassett played host to the Building Society’s employees, including its Chief Information Officer, Debra Bailey, as part of a Corporate Volunteering Day run by the financial institution.

During their visit, having spent the morning baking cakes and setting up the room, staff members spent time chatting and playing games with residents before joining them for lunch.

Nationwide, along with communication / production agency drp, transformed one of the home’s living areas into a fully functioning cinema, complete with ice cream, popcorn and a screen with the traditional 1940 curtains, adding to the whole experience. The residents were treated to a private screening of Casablanca at their request.

Before leaving later in the afternoon, the Nationwide team presented residents with goodie bags that included jars of traditional sweets.

Debra Bailey, Nationwide Chief Information Officer, commented: “Nationwide takes its responsibility as a local employer very seriously and is well known for supporting local communities. As part of that, my senior team and I were delighted to have the opportunity to do something which has been a genuine pleasure and hopefully made use of our resources and time to give the lovely people at Ridgeway House something a bit different.”

Karen Johnson, OSJCT’s Wiltshire Activities and Volunteer Manager, said: “We couldn’t be happier that Nationwide came out to spend time with all the people living at Ridgeway House!

“Everyone on their team was so friendly and nice, and our residents really enjoyed spending time with all the Nationwide volunteers that took part. We can’t express how much we appreciate all of the time and effort spent by them to get everything together for the day.

“Corporate volunteering seems to be becoming more and more popular because, not only is it a great way of building morale within a business, but it’s also a way to giving back to communities throughout the UK – so hopefully we’ll get to meet staff from other businesses in the future!”
