Watford Care Home Residents Celebrate 69 Years Of Wedded Bliss
A local couple have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary with the help of staff and fellow residents at RMBI Care Co. Home Prince Michael of Kent Court, in Watford.
Care home residents Tony, and Pamela Brett, both 92 years old, were married in 1955 in a church in Harrow, London, where they lived at the time. They met at a local dance at Wembley Town Hall, in North West London, where Tony was immediately smitten with Pamela. He escorted her home to Harrow Weald and, not having enough money for a bus or train fare, he walked back home to Dollis Hill, a distance of some eight miles in a thick smog. They recall it was “absolutely, love at first sight!”
Pamela remembers what she wore on her wedding day. Along with her wedding dress, she wore an orange blossom and pearl headdress, and carried a hand sheaf of red roses and pink carnations.
When asked what they believe is the secret to a happy, long marriage, they said: “It is realising that marriage is a partnership. It is having someone in your life and at your side to go through the good and bad times with.”
They celebrated their special day at Prince Michael of Kent Court, where they have lived together for eight years, with a three course meal prepared especially for them.
