Two Avery Winners at the Vegetarians for Life Awards

Avery Healthcare is delighted to announce that three of its chefs have recently been recognised for their skills in the 2019 Finals of the Excellence in Vegetarian Care Catering, held at the Houses of Parliament, where the Avery staff had an amazing afternoon celebrating the wins.

Champa Misty, vegetarian chef at Birchwood Grange Care Home in Harrow won the coveted title of Vegetarian Chef of the Year, from an Avery home that has the only Vegetarian Care Culinary Department in the whole country. Phil Meyer from Pemberley House Care Home in Basingstoke came away with the most Innovative Vegetarian/Vegan Dish of the Year and was also runner up to Champa for Vegetarian Chef of the Year.

Juan Lopez, also from Birchwood Grange, was the runner up for The Beulah Charity Trust Special Recognition Award, an accolade for that standout individual who strives to make the UK a better place for older vegans and vegetarians.

Avery Group Culinary Manager, Simon Lawrence, attended the awards and was delighted with his chefs’ achievements. “I was proud to support the three Avery finalists at this awards ceremony; it was fantastic to see the amount of care and passion they have at ensuring our vegetarian residents get the great choice, variety, and balance they need and desire.”
