Trip To The Football For Villa Fan As Part Of Seize The Day Initiative

An Aston Villa fan was able to watch her team play and most importantly win as part of her Seize the Day initiative.

Surinder Kaur is a volunteer and member of the MHA Communities South and West Birmingham site.

She has a visual impairment and was registered blind in 1987.

The Seize the Day initiative encourages members to re-experience activities or events from the past or to do something they would like to do for the first time.

Surinder is a lifelong Aston Villa Fan and had not been to see a game for 25 years when she was invited to watch them play against Luton Town..

She inspired Stella Shaw, a fellow Aston Villa fan and owner of Stellar Care NW during the National Care Forum’s (NCF) Conference where Surinder spoke as a MHA panellist.

Stella accompanied her to the game, they had a spot of lunch and enjoyed the performance from the Claret and Blues.

Surinder was very excited following the game and was “living her best life”

After the game Stella said: “What a wonderful day we all had, and even more so with a 3 – 1 win

“Surinder was an absolute pleasure, with a smile on her face from beginning to end and we will definitely try and take her to another game in the future”

Jennie Crosby, scheme manager said:
“Surinder became a member of our scheme in March 2021 when she moved into the Midland Heart Independent Living Complex where the scheme office is.

“It was during her speech as a panellist during the conference arranged by the NCF where Stella saw her and was inspired by her story.

“She spoke about her love for Aston Villa which was a mutual thing for both of them and that’s why Stella decided to take her to a match.

“She had a great time at the game and when I spoke to her afterwards she was really excited.

“I want to thank one of my colleagues Luke Buckland who approached me for panellists and his support with helping Surinder feel at ease went a long way.”
