Tot of Whisky Every Morning” Secret to Long Life says 102-year-Old Care Resident

A resident at a Rugeley based care home recently celebrated her 102nd birthday and says “a tot of whisky every morning” is the key to a long life.

Elizabeth “Liz” Brown lives at MHA Briar Hill House and was treated to a party to celebrate her birthday.

The home provides 36 places for residential and nursing care and made sure Liz had a perfect day surrounded by family and other residents.

Birthday banners and balloons were decked up around the home and the kitchen staff prepared a lovely afternoon tea for Liz’s family.

Speaking after her party Liz said: “I want to thank all the staff members who helped to make the day very enjoyable for me and my family.

“Usually, I am not someone who likes a fuss, but the party was just enough.

“Turning 102, I am starting to feel a little bit tired, but a tot of whisky every morning helps to keep me going and something I consider a secret to a long life.

Nina Varndell, activity coordinator said: “Liz is a very quiet and private person who doesn’t even like having her photo taken.

“She did agree after some persuasion for me to take pictures of her birthday party.

“It was a lovely day, we created some great memories and she really enjoyed herself.

“She had her close family members such as her sister and brother-in-law as well as her niece.

“Everyone had a great time and we really enjoyed celebrating Liz’s party at MHA Briar Hill House.”
