Teesside Yesteryear Motor Club’s car show at Middleton Hall Retirement Village raises funds for Zoe’s Place

A dazzling line-up of vintage and classic cars from members of the Teesside Yesteryear Motor Club (TYMC) at Middleton Hall Retirement Village helped to raise funds for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.

The display of vehicles from the well-established veteran vehicles enthusiasts’ club delighted residents, visitors and colleagues when it was held at the retirement village in Middleton St George near Darlington last month.

The event was one of the highlights of the Middleton Hall Retirement Village summer events programme and this was the second year that the Motor Club’s members journeyed along to showcase their wide range of vintage and classic cars.

Everyone enjoyed the display and residents from Middleton Hall’s residential care services particularly appreciated the opportunity to share memories and conversations with the visiting car enthusiasts.

One stand-out moment came when a club member proudly displayed a car celebrating its 100th birthday, complete with a sign. To the delight of the owner and other spectators, one Middleton Hall resident, aged 104, cheerfully responded, “I can beat that!” before posing for a photograph alongside the vintage vehicle.

Paul Peacock, TYMC Secretary said: “Our members always look forward to bringing their cars to Middleton Hall. The hospitality is second to none, but it’s the conversations with residents that make the day so special. Seeing people reminisce and share stories around the vehicles is a real pleasure. This year’s friendly competition between a 100-year-old car and a 104-year-old resident was a memory we’ll all treasure.”

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, from Motor Club members to residents, Middleton Hall employees and visitors, the Car Show raised £218.70 for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice Middlesbrough. The charity provides vital care for babies and young children with life-limiting and complex conditions, as well as support for their families.

Adam Wardale, Operations Director at Middleton Hall Retirement Village, said: “The annual Car Show is always a highlight for residents across our retirement village, and this year was no exception. We are so grateful to the Teesside Yesteryear Motor Club for bringing along such a wonderful collection of vehicles and for the time they spend talking with residents and visitors. The joy on everyone’s faces really summed up the spirit of the day.”
