Technology Experience Reflects Reality Of Dementia

TechAn innovative dementia care home in Seaford has introduced a virtual reality (VR) experience to help staff and families understand more about what it’s like to live with dementia.

The specialist dementia care centre, Clifden House on Claremont Road, has invested in ‘A Walk Through Dementia’ experience, developed by Alzheimer’s Research UK. This VR program is designed to simulate three everyday situations – a trip to the supermarket, a busy street and time at home – all of which pose challenges for someone with dementia.

Nial Joyce, care manager of Clifden House, said: “A Walk Through Dementia is an eye-opening experience. There’s more to the condition than just memory loss and this clearly exposes the many different, and often overlooked, facets of the disease.

“It’s a fantastic tool for anyone who has a friend or family member with dementia. If you would like to experience it, please give us a call and we will make sure it’s available.”
