Summer Fun At The Grand

GrandRelatives and friends joined residents at The Grand Care Centre in West Bridgford, Nottingham, for a celebratory summer party and an afternoon of music, fun and garden games.

To coincide with the final arrival of the warmer weather, the activities team at The Grand staged a traditional summer party for residents, complete with vintage side shows and stalls including a tombola, raffle, traditional sweet and cake shop, brik a brak and gift sale.

Making the most of the sunshine, the event took place both inside and outside of the care home.  Afternoon tea and summery nibbles were served, and the residents and their families and friends chatted to background music and songs from local jazz artist, Martyn Taylor.

Held for the first time this year, the event was intended to be the highlight of the summer activities calendar and an opportunity for residents to spend time with their family and friends in a relaxed atmosphere.  It was also designed to raise money for the residents to put towards future activities, excursions and events of their choosing.

More than 75 guests attended and just over £400 was raised for the activities fund.  Activities manager, Sandy Thomas, commented:  “We’ve had a fantastic response to our first summer party and it was great to see so many relatives here taking part and supporting their loved ones.”

Joyce Parker and Beverley a family member were winners on the tombola.  Beverley commented:  “It really has been a super afternoon – fun and games for all to enjoy and the chance to get outside and enjoy this glorious weather.”  Doris Denis added: “I was so pleased to be joined by my son Ranford Higgins, grandson Sindi Higgins and daughter in law Heike Higgins all the way from Germany and I think they had a lovely afternoon too.”
