Stainton Home Launches Hydration Bags For Residents To Stay Topped Up Whilst Visiting Hospitals
A Stainton home has launched hydration bags for residents to take with them whilst they are visiting or receiving care in hospitals.
MHA Montpellier Manor decided to launch the initiative following some conversations amongst the management team.
The aim of the bags is to provide residents with a source of nutrition whilst they are waiting in hospital.
The bags, branded in MHA colours and details of the home, contain freshly made sandwiches, pieces of fruit and biscuits as well as a drink.
So far the home has three bags and have put an order in for another six.
MHA Montpellier Manor provides residential and residential dementia care for 85 residents,
Donna Wass, home manager said:
“ The idea came off the back of some conversations we had with the rest of the management team.
“The aim was to help reduce the pressure on the NHS as we have had instances in the past where residents have been in A and E for several hours and due to the demands on NHS staff, they haven’t even been offered a glass of water.
“For us it’s important to remember we still have the responsibility of our residents whilst they are visiting the hospital.
“The bags are a great way to make sure our residents are hydrated and have options should they wish to have some food.
“The kitchen staff prepare and fill the bags ready for us to use and send out with the residents when they are going to the hospital.
“The idea so far has been very successful, we are hoping to get some more bags printed and ready, and I can definitely see the idea being used by other MHA homes.”
