Staffordshire Care Home Scoops Dignity Award

A Staffordshire care home has been awarded a top prize for putting people’s dignity at the heart of everything they do.

Staffordshire County Council presented Burntwood based Bracken House with a ‘Dignity in Care’ Award in the Dignity Learning category.  The awards recognise care services that respect an individual’s dignity, ensuring they are treated with respect, they can freely express their needs and wants, and they can maintain the maximum level of independence, choice and control.

Bracken House is a resident care home managed by the Accord Group that offers specialist support for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s.  Helen Brown, Unit Manager, said: “we put the dignity of our residents at the heart of everything we do, with many of our carers going that extra mile for the people they care.  We are delighted to have been recognised with this award.

“The issue of providing good quality, dignified care has been a topic of national importance in recent months, so this award is testament to the great team that work here that provide outstanding care and go that extra mile to ensure people are treated with respect and dignity no matter what their condition.”

Councillor Mark Sutton, Cabinet Member for Social and Health Care at Staffordshire County Council, said: “The Dignity in Care awards in Staffordshire are a celebration of really good and thoughtful care. We are seeing more and more that dignity, respect and compassion are essential in any type of care, and it is key that we recognise and reward this.”
