Staff Put Their Best Feet Forward And Get ‘Tough’ To Raise Funds

staffA team of caring staff from Czajka Care Group’s Staveley Birkleas home in Nab Wood, Shipley have put their best feet forward to raise money to support a project to build a wheelchair accessible decking area at the home.

Senior manager Gillian Butler, registered manager Val Dawson, support manager Pauline Grogan, activities coordinators Colette Kelly and Carolynne Beecroft, senior care assistants Kim Pedder and Allison Norfolk and volunteer Donna Hide all completed a 12 mile charity walk from Shipley to the Marquis of Granby Pub in Riddlesdon in fancy dress.

Gillian says: “Getting dressed up was great fun, and it gave us all an added boost, as well as attracting plenty of attention from other curious walkers! It was lovely that so many of our team gave up their time to take part in the fund-raising walk, and we are really pleased to have raised so much money.”

In addition to the fundraising walk HR Manager Daniel Czajka took part in a ‘Tough Mudder’ challenge at Broughton Hall in Skipton which saw him racing across rolling hills, dark woodlands, deep bogs, thick swamp-like mud and a lot of obstacles.

Daniel says: “I decided to take part in the challenge in fancy dress just like everybody who did the walk to show some solidarity, and I think it helped to encourage people to sponsor me knowing they would get to see me dressed up as a woman!

“It was tough to complete the challenging course and in total with the walk we raised £2,500 which will help support the plans to build a wheelchair accessible decking area outside that all the residents will benefit from.”

Czajka Care Group’s managing director Konrad Czajka adds: “We are so impressed with the team raising £2,500. Our family has matched the amount raised, so we have a total of £5,000 to cover the cost of the fantastic new decking area which will be completed very shortly. A local company, Manor, has also very kindly donated their labour time for free, and everyone is very excited to have played a part in creating such a lovely outside area for our residents to enjoy.”
