Staff Members At Carterton Home Pair Up With Residents To Create A ‘Quality Circle’ To Help Build Connections

Ann, one of the residents with hospitality manager, Dean

A Carterton home has launched a new initiative to promote independence and encourage everyone to share their experiences.

MHA The Homestead launched the quality circles as a way of creating a community between staff and residents.

The purpose of the initiative is to pair up residents with staff members who have similar interests.

The home provides residential and residential dementia care for 68 residents

Pawel Wisniowski, home manager said:
“Since the launch of the quality circles we have seen great bonds forming between our staff and residents.

“We have some really proud residents who like to get stuck in and they are always looking to help.

“A great example is one of the residents Ann who had a background in hospitality working with our hospitality manager, Dean.

“Between them they have been reviewing menus and looking for ways to improve the menus which has been very positive.

“All the pairings are involved in regular meetings, audits and reviews of work in the home, offering opportunities for residents to share their skills and experience.

“I think it’s been a huge success so far and I hope it continues to develop and becomes something more of our homes can bring in.”
