Staff Member at Penarth Based Care Home Braves the Shave and Raises More Than £1000
A staff member at a Penarth based care home decided to get rid of her long locks and raised more than £1,000 in the process.
Mandy Jenkins works as an administration manager at MHA Morel Court and decided to shave her hair to raise funds for the home’s amenities fund.
The shave took place at the home and Mandy was aided by her mum Diana and sister Gaynor as well as residents and staff.
Apart from making the very courageous decision to get rid of her hair, Mandy will donate the locks to The Little Princess Trust, who provide free wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair because of cancer.
A JustGiving page has been set up and so far, £1006.00 has been raised.
Speaking after the shave Mandy said: “I felt very emotional during the process but was very glad to see my family coming to support me.
“Shaving my hair is something I have never done before, but I feel the cause was worthy of it and I am very happy with the response so far.
“Some residents even joined in with the haircut and it was a very pleasant and fun experience in the end.
“The funds raised will go towards supporting the residents in whatever they want to do.
“There are plans to arrange some trips for residents as well as purchasing Christmas gifts.
“I do hope we raise as much money as possible so the wonderful residents can enjoy some great activities.”
