Staff Bring a Little Piece of Zimbabwe to Care Resident

Staff at Hilton Park surprised Archbold with a very special celebration of his Zimbabwean heritage — a beautiful moment filled with joy, laughter, warmth and a few happy tears.

Activities Coordinator Jenny Szabo reached out to Archbold’s son to learn more about him, his background and the things he enjoys. She decorated his room with Zimbabwean flags and set up a projector to play some of his favourite Zimbabwean songs and dances.

As the music started, Archbold became teary-eyed with happiness. He was so touched to see his culture being celebrated and to hear the familiar music from home.
A colleague had also brought back traditional dresses from their holiday, which Jenny and Monika proudly wore during the celebration.

To make the day even more special, Louis Lunga from our housekeeping team, who shares the same native dialect as Archbold, joined him for a lovely conversation in their home language. It was a very special moment of connection and familiarity.

Then came an even bigger surprise when staff started dancing. Archbold laughed and cried happy tears as he watched everyone celebrate with him.

Jenny Szabo, Activities Coordinator, said: “Seeing Archbold’s smile made every bit of effort worthwhile. Moments like this remind us why we love what we do — bringing joy, connection and a little piece of home. Seeing how happy he was made me very emotional and incredibly proud.”

Manager Geanina Tinca added: “It was truly touching to see Archbold so happy and emotional. His smile and laughter showed us just how much these moments of connection mean. Celebrating someone’s culture, memories and identity is such an important part of caring for the whole person. We were all very proud to be part of such a beautiful moment.”
