Southgate Care Home Makes Resident’s Dream Come True

John Lumsden, a resident at Barchester’s Southgate Beaumont Care Home has always liked the finer things in life. John had always wanted to take a trip in a Rolls Royce, so staff at the home made his life-long wish a reality.

John has been a resident at Southgate Beaumont since the summer 2023 and his devoted partner, Jerry, visits him daily. John and Jerry have been together for 44 years and in a civil partnership for seven years. They have become a much loved part of the Beaumont family and bring a great amount of fun and laughter to the home. John is well known for the colourful flamboyant shirts he wears at every given opportunity!

Jerry told the Southgate Beaumont team that John would love to go out in a beautiful car so they got together to make this dream come true.  Local car enthusiast, Garry Hall, is the proud owner of a Rolls Royce 20 25 Sedanca De Ville, he heard about John’s wish and very kindly agreed to take John and Jerry for an afternoon drive in this stunning classic car.

Garry kindly presented John with a Rolls Royce pin and the team clapped as John and Jerry made their way to the beautiful car, they sipped champagne before Garry took them on a drive around the places that were special to them and where they first met 44 years ago.

In response to this wonderful surprise, John said: “ What a wonderful day. It is such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people have arranged this for us.” Jerry commented: “It felt like our wedding day all over again and we are overwhelmed and blown away by this dream come true.”
