A new benchmarking study that will reveal the latest pay and reward policies for frontline social care staff is being launched today by Agenda Consulting in partnership with Voluntary Organisations Disability Group (VODG).

Organisations that participate in the study will benefit from having access to accurate data on pay and reward for frontline staff in social care organisations. This will enable informed decisions to be made about pay and reward policies and they will also be able to benchmark their data against a choice of similar organisations working in the same field.
The study will involve organisations working across the social care sector including those who work with learning disability, mental health, and physical disability, working across all client groups.
It will benchmark basic and enhanced pay, as well as a whole range of other benefits including pension contributions, maternity and paternity pay, and annual leave.
Basic pay is measured for support workers in 9 English regions and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Basic pay is measured by London and rest of UK, for:

- Specialist Support Workers
- Bank / Relief Staff
- Qualified Nurses
- Senior Support Workers
- Qualified Social Workers
- Deputy Service Managers
- Nurse Team Leaders
- Area Managers
- Service Managers
Roger Parry, Director at Agenda Consulting said: “There has been great initial interest from organisations about the study. With the average organisational paybill in social care organisations representing two thirds of their total expenditure[i] and with increased financial pressure on the sector as a whole, the need for accurate data on pay and reward has never been greater. Participants will gain accurate data to not only inform strategic decision making about pay and rewards but also ensure their policies are in line with the competition.”
Organisations taking part will receive a tailored scorecard report which highlights how they compare to their chosen peers and the whole sample, as well as a sector-wide report which will include a commentary and detailed information about the performance on each measure. Organisations will also be invited to attend a free workshop to discuss the results and share good practice.
The study is being shaped by a reference group of key social care providers including: Dimensions, United Response, Mencap and The National Autistic Society.
