Residents Relive Their Youth Riding Motorbikes At Ruddington Manor

A number of residents at Ruddington Manor Care Centre on Ruddington Lane in Wilford were able to relive their youth by riding motorbikes.

New Care, the care home operator of Ruddington Manor, regularly asks its residents to make a wish and Dorothy Stapleton, aged 90, wanted to ride a motorbike again.

She says: “It has been 67 years since I last rode a motorbike, when I was 23 years old.  To see several bikes and trikes at the care home along with the bikers, who were all really friendly, was just great and a real wish come true.

“I really enjoyed the afternoon as it brought back so many memories.  Some of the other residents loved the bikes too, especially as many had never been on a motorbike before.”

Other Ruddington Manor residents who sat on the motorbikes were John Pownell, aged 85, and Hilda Brown, aged 90, both of whom loved the experience.

Amy Simpson, activities coordinator at Ruddington Manor, adds: “It is so important that the activities we organise are enjoyed by our residents.  We want them to be fun as well as encourage stimulation.

“Our make a wish initiative is particularly special as it really does touch the residents when their wishes come true.  We were able to surprise Dorothy, who hadn’t been on a motorbike since 1952.  She loved seeing the motorbikes and trikes at the home and chatted away to the bikers about the motorbikes she rode when younger and the riding routes in Nottinghamshire they enjoy today.”
