Residents Enjoy Indian Themed Evening At Lydgate Lodge

resLydgate Lodge resident enjoys dining at Indian Nights

Residents at Lydgate Lodge care home in Batley enjoyed a taste of India as the home created a pop-up restaurant called Indian Nights.  The café area was decorated with red and gold and residents were greeted with a glass of wine on arrival.  Staff dressed up as waiters to complete the restaurant experience and families were invited to dine with their relatives.

Lydgate Lodge, which is operated by Ideal Carehomes, understands the importance of eating well and the pop-up restaurant is another step to ensure that the dining experience at the home is first class.  For many residents, they will have celebrated special occasions by dining out throughout their life time but now their needs have reached a point where getting out of the home is difficult.   The pop-up restaurant is therefore their opportunity to once again have a full restaurant experience and gives them a sense of occasion.  Residents are required to book a table at the pop-up restaurant and they can then enjoy an a la carte menu and receive full table service.

Lydgate Lodge residents were keen for the restaurant to have an Indian theme, and the menu consisted of poppadum’s and pickles to start, korma or biryani for main with either strawberry mousse or ice cream to finish.  There was a guitarist on hand to enhance the atmosphere and residents commented that they felt like they were really in a restaurant!  Betty Exley, who has lived at Lydgate Lodge for nearly a year said “It was nice to get out for a meal and a catch up with friends”.

Lydgate Lodge provides residential and dementia care for 64 local older people.  Through a varied programme of activities, highly nutritious food and inspirational spaces, the home provides residents with person-centred care, creating aspirational lifestyle choices.  After the success of Indian Nights, everyone is looking forward to another pop-up restaurant once the residents have decided which theme to go for next!
