Residents, staff and family carers at Lyndhurst Care Home, Hartwood House, celebrated Dignity Action Day in style with a Dignity tree planting ceremony recently.
Home Manager, Moira Baxter, enjoyed the assistance of 4 generations from one family that braved the February elements and helped to plant the tree in the garden. Patricia, a resident at Hartwood House, her Daughter Louise, Granddaughter Joanna and Great Granddaughters, Bridget and Phoebe all came together to embrace the positive message of Dignity Action Day.
Dignity Action Day is an initiative supported by the National Dignity Council and is in place to ensure that we all have dignity in our hearts minds and actions. The idea of this special day is to promote awareness to help change the culture of care services placing a greater emphasis on improving the quality of care and the experience of citizens using services including NHS hospitals, community services, care homes and home support services.
This is an initiative that is very close to the heart of everybody that works at Hartwood House and that is why they were so excited to support the event. Moira said “Treating all of our residents with the upmost dignity is central to everything we do at Hartwood House. We fully respect the privacy, dignity and individuality of every single resident and fully encourage them to live their lives exactly the way they want to.”
Dignity Trees are a symbolic reminder to anybody that works in care about the importance of their personal actions each and every day in ensuring that people are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives. So Moira has placed her latest addition right in the centre of the landscaped gardens so that it is visible from most of the bedrooms and lounges allowing everybody in Hartwood House whoever they are: staff; visiting professionals or friends and family will see it from around the home.
Hartwood House is part of the Hartford Care Family of Homes. For more information or to book a visit please contact the Home Admissions Advisor, Geraint Williams on 02380 284555 or email email@example.com.
