Resident at Penarth Home Goes on Trip Down Memory Lane with Visit to Farm

A resident at a Penarth home was taken back to her childhood when she visited a farm as part of the homes seize the day initiative.

Pat Vernon lives at MHA Morel Court and spent most of her childhood living on a farm.

Pat, who is originally from Ireland wanted to relive those days and asked the home to arrange a trip to a farm nearby.

The initiative encourages residents to re-experience activities or events from the past or to do something they would like to do for the first time.

She was accompanied by Chanelle and June who both work at the home to Amelia Trust farm and topped the day off with a trip to a chippy for lunch.

June Mansell, community coordinator said:
“Pat was ecstatic when she realised it was the day of her trip.

“She would ask me every day when she was going, so it was nice to say yes when the day came.

“She jumped out of bed and got ready and had a huge smile on her face.

“She was like this for at least a couple of days after and I am very happy she got to visit the farm.

“For her I think it was great to relive her younger days and reconnect with her previous life.

“The Seize the Day initiative is a great way to not only find out more about our residents but give them an opportunity to go on a trip down memory lane.”
