Resident At Colne Care Home Celebrates 101st Birthday

101 birthday 003Great Grandmother Elsie Jackson was the toast of Belvedere Manor care home when she celebrated her 101st birthday. Bouquets of flowers flooded into the home from Elsie’s family and friends and her room was filled with cards.

Elsie was born in Lancashire and was the oldest of 2 children. She met her future husband Tommy at the age of 14.

The couple married in 1935, and were together for 54 years until Tommy passed away in 1989.

Elsie worked as a weaver in a mill alongside her mother, this is where she met Tommy. They enjoyed going dancing together.

After the Second World War, Elsie bought up her 2 daughters on Bath Street in Nelson.

Apart from Sheila and Alma, Elsie has 4 grandchildren, Stephanie, Carol, Tracy and Rachel and 2 great grandchildren Ben and Lauren.

Staff at Belvedere Manor marked Elsie’s birthday by presenting her with a specially baked cake. They celebrated with a birthday party with her family, Just as the party began there was a power cut which affected a large area of Colne. Tony the entertainments manager encouraged all the residents to participate in a sing along where they reminisced over wine and cake. Everyone had a fantastic day, it was a day to remember.

Home Manager, Joanne Shapcott, said “Elsie is a very popular resident and thoroughly enjoyed her birthday celebrations.”
