Record Number Of Care UK Homes Taking Part In Care Home Open Day

CHODThousands of people are expected through the doors of Care UK care homes this week, as 106 of it’s 113 care homes the country join in the celebrations of National Care Home Open Day.

Homes up and down the country will be inviting local people along for a free family-friendly event in support of Care Home Open Day – an annual nationwide initiative designed to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities, and across the generations.

Each home team is planning its very own fun celebration. Some will be theming their events around The Queen’s 90th birthday, with street parties, royal tea parties, ‘nominate a ‘Queen for the Day’ and screenings of the Coronation among the many activities taking place.

Others will be hosting their very own Carnival party in honour of the Rio 2016 Olympics, and guests can expect the likes of armchair Olympics and sports day-style races, Brazilian food and even a limo competition.

Punch and Judy shows, magicians, balloon modelling, face painter and visits from hosts of pets, donkeys, creatures and critters are set to entertain younger members of the community at some homes; while live music and dancing features everything from school choirs to ukulele bands will help the parties to go with a swing.

This year, the vast majority of Care Uk’s homes are taking part. The Care UK teams and residents have all been inspired to get involved and to welcome local people to their home after the success of the event in 2015 when almost 50 Care UK homes got involved.

The invitation to visit one of the homes taking part in the open is extended to all local people – not just those with friends or family members living in the home. Each home has a different programme of events with activities ranging from belly dancers, barbecues, photo booths, to archery and animal Olympics.
