Burnley Care Home Host Royal Knees Up

Burnley-The wet weather didn’t dampen the spirits when a Royal Birthday Party was held to celebrate the Queen’s landmark 90th birthday. Whilst a Garden Party had been planned, it was moved indoors due to the wet weather.

The lounge was decorated throughout with everything red white and blue, including flags galore to wave. It brought back plenty of happy memories of the residents own experiences during the Queen’s reign as well as reminiscing about where they were during moments in history.

A tea party was enjoyed with plenty of delicious cakes. Gerard Horrocks the Activities Co-ordinator at Heather Grange provided the entertainment with a Cabaret performance, belting out the hits!

Heather Grange had their own birthdays to celebrate too, as residents Rita Berry and Sylvia Clarke were celebrating their birthdays and were Queens for the day!

Donna Laird the Home Manager said “Our residents are very patriotic and The Queen has a very special place in our hearts. A great time was had by all and everyone really got into the spirit of the occasion.”

Gerard Horrocks the Activities Co-ordinator said “Celebrations such as this, whether celebrating the Queen’s birthday or that of a fellow resident or staff member, can be vital in maintaining a good quality of life and injecting fun into events. They are an excellent addition to our event programmes and give residents a chance to socialise in a relaxed environment, share stories and forge new bonds with both staff and residents. It offers them a chance to interact regardless of their usual levels of activity and engagement or any health & mobility issues.”
