RAF Veteran’s Wartime Show Visit is a Dream Come True

76 year old RAF veteran, Peter Heys, recently attended the Cosby Victory Show, where he watched wartime air show displays, battle re-enactments, vintage military vehicles, and enjoyed 1940s themed entertainment. The annual event takes place across a 100-acre farm in early September to honour the legacy and history of the 1940s and World War II.

Peter, a resident at RMBI Care Co. Home Devonshire Court, in Leicester, was a Squadron Leader in the RAF during 1960. As an Engineering Officer for 33 years, he was posted in Germany and also spent time in East Anglia. When Peter retired, he worked in a recruiting office in Dundee for 10 years, while working for the civil service.

At the Victory Show, Peter was delighted to meet other veterans, and they shared experiences of their time serving in the RAF. He mentioned the event brought back many memories and seeing all of the aircrafts, vehicles and people in uniform was a beautiful sight.

Claire Barrett, Business Relationship Manager at Devonshire Court said: “Making Peter’s dream come true was incredibly special. The RAF has been such an important part of Peter’s life, and it means so much to him to keep those memories alive.

“From his personalised fighter plane mural at Devonshire Court to attending community RAF events, we’re delighted to be able to support Peter in celebrating his time in this service, as well as making new memories,” she adds.
