Port Talbot Care Home Marks the Festive Season with Visit from Stephen Kinnock MP

Plas Cwm Carw care home was decorated in all its festive marvel this week as the home played host to Stephen Kinnock, MP for Aberafan Master. Councillor Josh Tuck (Baglan Ward) also accompanied Mr Kinnock.

Adorned with baubles, tinsel and festive lights, the colleagues and residents at the home were feeling particularly festive as Mr Kinnock took a tour of the 66-bed purpose-built care home centred at the heart of Port Talbot.

Taking in the facilities across the home including the café, cinema room and hair salon, Mr Kinnock took the opportunity to meet with the home’s residents and staff to discuss life at Plas Cwm Carw as well as the pressing issues currently facing the adult social care sector.
Later on in the visit, staff, residents and guests gathered in the lounge for what would be the festive highlight of the day as a local choir led the home in Christmas Carols. Mr Kinnock joined residents in renditions of classical carols and listened keenly to a touching piece of poetry by Frances Ridley Havergal read by one of the residents.

Patricia Burton, Area Director at HC-One said: “It is always a pleasure to welcome anybody from the local community into our home and this visit from Mr Kinnock will be one that our residents and colleagues remember for a long time. I know that all of our colleagues and residents will thank Mr Kinnock for taking the time out of his busy schedule to spend time with us at the home and discuss some particularly important topics in relation to the provision of adult social care in Port Talbot and beyond.”

Stephen Kinnock MP for Aberafan Maesteg said: “It was a real pleasure to visit Plas Cwm Carw care home in Port Talbot. The warm welcome was matched only by the wonderful entertainment, from the choir’s beautiful singing to the fantastic accordion performance, it was a joy to see everyone coming together and sharing such an uplifting festive spirit.
A huge thank you to the incredibly hardworking staff who go above and beyond every single day to ensure residents receive the care, dignity and compassion they deserve. Your dedication is truly inspiring, and our community is so grateful for everything you do.”
