Orchard’s Penwortham Grange and Lodge leads Dance Workshops for Care Home Open Week

The staff and people of Penwortham Grange and Lodge, Penwortham*, are set to open their doors to the community for a special open day on Friday 30th June from 10am -3pm. The event will be running during national Care Home Open Week (26th June – 3rd July 2023) to provide UK Care Homes with the opportunity to showcase their fantastic facilities, activities and services – plus remind their neighbours that they are there if they need support.

As part of the day’s activities Chloe Morrisey, Activities Co-ordinator, at Penwortham Grange and Lodge – a qualified Dance Performance Teacher – has devised a special no-cost dance activities workshop aimed at over 65s from the area to promote the benefits of activity amongst those with impaired mobility or are living with dementia.

Chloe comments “Dance and regular activity of approximately 2.5 hours per week, is of enormous benefit to our community and those over 65. Not only is it important to keep our bodies moving regularly, but research shows that physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual needs can be met through regular exercise. Working at Penwortham Lodge and Grange, I’m able to develop a deeper understanding of a person’s individual health and mobility needs. I create engaging activities which promote social interaction, exchange skills and teach new techniques to improve mobility and well-being.

“It is important to encourage exercise among those that we care for. This can include simple activities such as walking, stretching, or chair exercises. We also recommend participation in group exercise classes or other physical activities such as dancing, gentle somatic practice, or yoga.”

All activities first assess everyone’s level of physical ability and health status before starting in tandem with risk assessment protocols. Those with less mobility can participate seated and a full inclusive range of abilities will be catered to at the event.

In addition to the dance workshop, Orchard’s Penwortham Grange and Lodge will also be showcasing a tasty Chef’s Demo, Hairdressing and Pampering for all, with a variety of live entertainment from 2-3pm and various market stalls available for visitors to browse.

Chloe adds: “Our Open Day is for the whole community – we’d love to see as many people as possible and share our wonderful home with you all.”
