Orchard Care Homes Is Proud To Celebrate Pride Month

Proud of its culture of diversity and inclusion, Orchard Care Homes has been celebrating Pride Month throughout June across its 23 homes in the North of England and Midlands.

Pride Month is an annual celebration of the many contributions made by the LGBTQ+ community to history, society and cultures worldwide. This month, Orchard’s care homes have been waving the flag for the LGBGTQ+ community and hosting garden parties, craft events and performances from singers in their local communities.

During their daily reminiscence sessions, which help to build reconnection, especially for those living with dementia, people talked about inclusion, lifestyles and how things have changed through the generations. Many said how much positivity and acceptance there is now, compared to when they were growing up back in the 1940s and 50s.

Margaret, 88, (pictured above) from Orchard’s Green Park, Warrington, says, “It doesn’t matter who you are, love is love.”

Hayden Knight, CEO at Orchard Care Homes, adds, “We are really proud to celebrate Pride Month here at Orchard and believe we are a very inclusive company, embracing any differences among our staff and people living at our homes. Everyone had such fun celebrating Pride Month events, but the focus was not lost. It was lovely to hear everyone’s views on gender and sexuality, and how attitudes have changed positively as understanding has progressed over the years.”
