One Special Lady, 100 Special Years!

This weekend saw family, friends and staff gather together to celebrate the 100th years young birthday of Mary Twiss. Mary reached the wonderful century age on Saturday September 12th, 2015.

Her family gathered around her and weekend celebrations took place to mark Mary’s very important birthday milestone occasion.

The sun shone, the hugs continued and laughter and celebration filled Stocks Hall Care Home, Nursery Avenue, Ormskirk, where Mary lives.  During the celebrations David, Mary’s son gave a speech about Mary.  He talked about Mary’s life, said how pleased she was to receive a telegram from the Queen and how she had read it out for all to hear.

When asked, Mary said her secret of living a long life was “plenty of laughter, be happy with what you get in life and a fresh glass of water every day.”

Mary grew up in Liverpool and worked and a seamstress at Taylor’s during the war, she also ran a little drinks kiosk at the Aintree Grand National Racecourse and favourably remembers many a man falling down drunk.

Mary thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, she said “It was wonderful to have all my family and friends with me, I couldn’t ask for anything else.”

Mary who has been living at Stocks Hall, Ormskirk Care Home for four years is pictured here enjoying her 100th birthday celebrations with family and friends.  Her daughter, Jeanie, who lives in Melbourne, Australia, flew over to the UK with her husband Ken and daughter Becky to spend this special occasion with Mary.

Gel Ball, Manager of the Home concludes “What an amazing birthday to celebrate. Mary is such a lovely lady and it was a great honour to be able to mark her 100thbirthday in this way. Mary gives so many smiles to others and we wanted to put even bigger smiles on her face for her very special day. We wish her many more birthdays to come.”
