Never Lose Hope: Anita Harris’ Song Tribute To Late Husband
Legendary singer and actress Anita Harris has released her most poignant song yet, to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK in memory of her late husband.
“Music is my life and was the whole of both our lives”, says Anita. “Sometimes, lyrics can say more than spoken words. This song came through my love for him.”
Anita started penning the track, called Never Lose Hope, after witnessing husband Mike Margolis’ strength and courage while dealing with the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.
Mike died just days after celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in May 2023. The song has been released to mark the first anniversary of his passing.
Anita, whose career spans over six decades and is best known for her recording of Just Loving You and starring in two Carry On films, Follow That Camel and Carry On Doctor, said: “I found myself waking up with this song just pouring out of me. ‘Never lose hope’ is something he would always say when he was going through his various health problems, and I think hope is so important.”
Artist, writer and record producer Mike, a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (LFRSA), remained by Anita’s side from the moment he became her manager in the 1960s. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2015.
“This song is to commemorate and remember my lovely, devoted husband and to let anybody going through the same thing know that they are not alone.” – Anita Harr
Anita went public with his diagnosis in 2022 to raise awareness of the disease and support Alzheimer’s Research UK – the UK’s leading dementia research charity. Now, Anita will drive funds for vital dementia research through her emotional song, is released on the Redrocca digital label – an arm of Peer Music.
Anita chose to support our charity, stating, “Alzheimer’s Research UK’s drive and determination gives us all hope that there will be a cure. It’s only through sharing our experiences and supporting their work that we will end the heartbreak and take away the aloneness that diseases like Alzheimer’s cause.”
She adds: “I’d like to thank everyone who has made this song possible, including Peer Music who have been a constant support.”
“We are honoured that Anita has decided to donate profits from her powerful song to further our search for a cure”, said Hilary Evans, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
“With a sustained effort, we will find a cure for all forms of dementia and Anita is helping us take a step closer to achieving this. We can’t thank her enough.
“We’d love people to support Anita and the charity by downloading or streaming the beautiful Never Lose Hope – every penny raised will make such a difference.”
