Midlands Care Homes Come Together For A Performance To Remember

Residents from MHA Homewood care home in Leamington Spa recently stepped into the spotlight to perform Jack and the Beanstalk to two other care homes in the West Midlands and Warwickshire, MHA Cedar Lodge and MHA Cedar Lawn.

For many, Christmas and the New Year is a time to reconnect with old friends in the community and make new ones – but for those living in a care home, it isn’t always that easy. The coming together of these three homes was a fantastic opportunity for residents to meet new people living in their local area.

The pantomime was a great success with all members of the audience laughing along, joining in and even asking for an encore at the end.

The residents at MHA Homewood take performing very seriously, with a weekly amateur dramatics group in which enthusiasts come together to practise public speaking, take part in improvisation activities and rehearse for performances such as Jack and the Beanstalk.

Nadine Webster, Home Manager at MHA Cedar Lodge, said: “At MHA Cedar Lodge, we understand the festive period can be a tricky time for some of our residents. That’s why we ensure we always have a calendar packed full of activities and outings throughout December and into early January.

“MHA Cedar Lodge and MHA Cedar Lawn have been working together for a few years now. We have a joint choir, often head into Stratford together for events like the Christmas lights switch-on and hold fun activities together such as vintage tea parties.

“However, this is the first time that all three homes have come together for a social activity and judging by the success of the pantomime – it definitely won’t be the last!”
