Members Of Staff At Sawley Care Home Shave Head For Charity

Two brave members of staff at Canterbury Care’s Riverside Care Centre have shaved their heads to support charity.

Susan Jones (45) who has been a cook at the home for three and a half years and Ann Robinson (70) who has worked as an activities co-ordinator at Riverside Care Centre for 10 years, took the plunge as residents at the home and their fellow members of staff looked on.

Their efforts raised £460, which will be split between Cancer Research, a charity that is close to their hearts as a staff member was recently diagnosed with cancer, and Children In Need.

Located in Sawley, Clitheroe, Riverside Care Centre provides residential care, including dementia care, for up to 40 residents. The home has 40 single bedrooms and four lounge areas, which overlooks its large garden that its residents can enjoy, as well as a conservatory.

Gail Ainsworth, Riverside Care Centre Manager, said: “Everyone at Riverside Care Centre is extremely proud of Susan and Ann. It was a really brave and selfless act they did for charity and they set a fantastic example to everyone. Cancer Research is a charity that is extra special for us and they raised a fantastic amount to support the cause.”

Susan Jones said: “I was nervous leading up to the head shave, but knowing that it was for two special causes that do fantastic work made me really want to do it. I’m just about getting used to my new look!”

Ann Robinson said: “It was great having the support of residents and other members of staff at Riverside Care Centre, who really spurred us on to do it! I’d also like to say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored us.”
