Meallmore Wins Hat-trick of Prestigious Awards
Older person and specialist care provider Meallmore, is celebrating after scooping three awards at the Scottish Care National Care Home Awards.
Now in its 21st year, these prestigious annual awards celebrate the outstanding dedication, innovation, and achievements of the care home workforce across Scotland.
A surprise award on the evening was given to Meallmore’s Chief Operating Officer, Mary Preston, as she was honoured with the Strategic Contribution Award, for being a ‘true leader in care’. This award recognises individuals who have made a significant, long-term impact on the care sector and is chosen entirely by the judging panel.
From the main categories, Meallmore won the Training, Learning & Staff Development Award, while Meallmore’s St Modan’s Care Home in Fraserburgh took home the Care Innovation Award.
The Training, Learning & Staff Development Award was given for Meallmore’s Academy of Care Kitchen Excellence, which provides a structured development programme designed to guide colleagues from entry-level Kitchen Assistant roles through to Head Chef positions.
St Modan’s won the Care Innovation Award for their sensory space, which has resulted in a range of benefits, including improved relaxation and better family interactions for residents living with dementia or brain injuries. The sensory room was also a contributing factor to the care home achieving grade 6 across the board from the Care Inspectorate this year, signifying an ‘excellent’ sector-leading performance for the setting and the support of people’s wellbeing.
The Care Home Awards took place at the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow on 14th November and was hosted by Scottish Care CEO Dr Donald Macaskill and singer and presenter Michelle McManus.
Commenting on her win, Mary Preston said: “I feel truly humbled and delighted to have been recognised for strategic contribution to our sector. I have always been lucky to work alongside great people throughout my career, and I’d like to thank them for their support. This was a fantastic night of celebrations for our sector, and especially for Meallmore. Huge congratulations to St Modan’s Care Home for a very well-deserved award win, and to the full Meallmore team for their ongoing hard work and dedication.”
Cillian Hennessey, CEO of Meallmore, said: “I’m so incredibly proud of the Meallmore team for winning these industry awards. I’m thrilled for Mary to receive this recognition for her dedication, innovation, and leadership that has shaped the industry. She is a force for good not just in our organisation, but for the entire sector, and really deserves this award.
“Congratulations also to the wonderful St Modan’s team, who really demonstrate how we go the extra mile on care at Meallmore. The introduction of the sensory room at the home has seen amazing results for our residents and their families, and I’m proud of what their creativity and dedication has achieved in this important new model. And of course, to our Group Hospitality Manager, Jody Marshall and his team for their impressive work on the Academy of Care Kitchen Excellence. We’ve seen seriously impressive results from this Academy, which reflects our dedication to professional development, high standards in care catering, and creating rewarding career opportunities for our team.
“A phenomenal result all round – well done, team!”
