Louth Care Home Introduces Falls Prevention Programme

The Wolds Care Centre in Louth has introduced a new six-week falls prevention and chair-based exercise programme to help older people improve their strength, balance and confidence.

The sessions use gentle chair-based exercises to support mobility and help residents remain active, with people able to work at a pace that suits them. The Wolds also has four Lincolnshire-approved Falls Ambassadors, supporting the home’s wider work around falls prevention and helping residents maintain their independence.

The programme will run for six weeks, giving those taking part the chance to build strength gradually while making regular movement part of their routine and enjoying the social side of exercising together.

Michaela Taylor, Registered Manager at The Wolds Care Centre, said: “Falls can have a real impact on an older person’s confidence and independence, so we wanted to create something that helps people keep moving and feel more secure in their day-to-day lives.

“The first session was really well received and it was lovely to see people joining in, encouraging each other and enjoying themselves. The exercises are designed to be accessible, so people can take part at their own level and build their confidence over the course of the six weeks.”

The programme forms part of The Wolds’ work to support residents’ health and wellbeing, with regular movement helping people maintain strength and balance while also providing an opportunity to spend time with others.

Sharon Gaffney, Wellbeing Practitioner at The Wolds Care Centre, said: “We want people to feel comfortable taking part, whatever their level of mobility. Chair-based exercise is a simple way to keep moving, while the group setting gives people the chance to enjoy themselves and spend time together.

“We hope people finish each session feeling more confident about what they can do and enjoy making movement a regular part of their week.”
