Local Dental Practice Takes Its Expertise To Blossom Hill Care Home

Residents from the Blossom Hill Care Home in Sunderland spent a morning with three dental nurses from the Bupa Dental Care practice in Wessington, to hear about caring for teeth as people get older.

Naomi Penny, Mel Smith and Dawn Illingworth visited more than 40 residents to deliver an educational talk about the importance of maintaining a good oral health routine, from advice about brushing and managing sensitive teeth, to caring for dentures and the importance of a good diet.

During the fun-filled afternoon, the residents also played dental pass the parcel and received free samples of toothpaste, toothbrushes and tubes of denture adhesive.

Naomi Penny, Dental Nurse at Bupa Dental Care Wessington, commented: “We’ve had a great afternoon with the residents from Blossom Hill Care Home. It was a real pleasure to meet everyone and we enjoyed offering useful advice when it comes to caring for teeth in later years.

“Good oral care routines can really enhance quality of life for older people, benefiting their health and wellbeing. With this in mind, it’s important that the residents we visited today, their carers and loved ones, all know how to take care of aging teeth.”

Speaking of today’s visit, Blossom Hill Care Home team member Kirsty Lee, said: “It’s been a hugely enjoyable afternoon and we are so grateful to the team from Bupa Dental Care Wessington who reminded us that no matter how old you are, looking after your teeth is key to staying well and should remain a top priority.”
