Local Care Provider Receives National Award For Apprenticeship Programme

The Fremantle Trust awarded Best Employer Support for Apprenticeships AwardThe Fremantle Trust, a local charity and provider of care for older people and adults with a learning disability, won the ‘Best employer support for Apprenticeships’ award at the Skills for Care Accolades ceremony at the Park Plaza Victoria Hotel in London on the 12 March.

The awards, run by Skills for Care, aim to recognise organisations and employers who are committed to delivering high quality care and developing their workforce as well as celebrating best practice across the sector.

Up against stiff competition from Manchester City Council and Walsall Council, The Fremantle Trust won the award for its standout approach to apprenticeships, which includes a specially constructed programme providing professional and specialist care skills.

Each apprentice is appointed with a dedicated assessor and mentor to provide ongoing support and training, including specialist advice in dementia care, end of life care and health and wellbeing.

Commenting on the award, Steve Flanagan, chief executive at The Fremantle Trust, said: “We are extremely proud of our apprenticeship programme and delighted to have been recognised for its effectiveness and innovative approach to workplace learning.

“Apprentices play an important role in the growth of our organisation, and all our previous apprentices are now employed by the Trust. We hope that this award is the first of many and welcome any young people looking for an apprenticeship in the social care sector to get in touch.”
