Local Care Home Residents Enjoy Visit To Myddleton House Gardens

Residents from Hugh Myddelton House care home in Southgate enjoyed a special day out at Myddelton House Gardens in Enfield, making the most of the beautiful weather and exploring the gardens’ rich history.

As part of their regular weekly outings, residents at Hugh Myddelton House have been enjoying spending time outdoors and connecting with nature. Recent trips have included visits to local parks and garden centres, but this outing was particularly special.

The group visited Myddelton House Gardens in Enfield, which was once home to Edward Augustus Bowles, one of Britain’s most famous self-taught gardeners, artists and botanists.
Following the death of his wife, Bowles built a new house in the fashionable white brick style of the time, using bricks from Suffolk. He named it Myddelton House in honour of Sir Hugh Myddelton, the engineering genius behind the creation of the New River.

The visit held an extra-special meaning for the residents and team at Hugh Myddelton House, as the care home itself is also named in honour of Sir Hugh Myddelton.

Exploring the gardens gave residents the opportunity to discover more about the history behind a name that is so important to their care home, while enjoying the beautiful surroundings and spending quality time together.

The group also had the pleasure of visiting “Diana Laurie Still Life – An Exhibition of New Paintings and Drawings”, where residents enjoyed viewing the artwork and taking inspiration from the creativity on display.
Mansukh Chander General Manager said: “Spending time outdoors and connecting with nature is such an important part of our wellbeing programme at Hugh Myddelton House. As a team, we are making sure our residents have regular opportunities to visit local parks, gardens and other places of interest.

“These outings are not only beneficial for our residents, but also give our staff the opportunity to step away from their usual routines and spend meaningful time with the people they care for. Sharing these experiences together allows us to create wonderful memories as a team.”

Resident Andrea was particularly excited to visit Myddelton House Gardens with her sister.

Her sister said: “This was my first visit out with my sister since she moved to Hugh Myddelton House, and we had a really lovely time together. It was wonderful to spend time outdoors, enjoy the gardens and make some special memories. We were both very happy to have the opportunity to get out and enjoy such a beautiful place.”
