Ledbury Resident Celebrates 106th Birthday At Local Care Home

A care home in Ledbury was filled with joy and celebration as one of its beloved residents, marked her incredible 106th birthday on 1st April.

Surrounded by friends, family, and staff at Ledbury Nursing Home, Barbara Collcutt’s special day was an unforgettable occasion, full of music, laughter, and warm wishes.

The lounge was buzzing with excitement as the team gathered to honour Barbara’s extraordinary milestone.

The celebrations began with a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday,” followed by cheers and applause as Barbara’s radiant smile lit up the room. One of Barbara’s favourite musicians led a lively singalong, setting the tone for a heart-warming morning.

Barbara was delighted to receive a special birthday card from the King and Queen and she was also showered with thoughtful gifts from her family and friends.

Barbara Collcutt, born on 1st April, 1919, in Wandsworth, London, has lived a remarkable life. She moved to Ledbury Nursing Home in 2023, but for most of her life, she called Goring-by-Sea, Sussex, home. Barbara had a large, close-knit family – three brothers and one sister, and her brothers used to tease her about her birthday being on April Fool’s Day.

Barbara was a passionate tennis player, enjoying the sport up until the age of 80. She is a big fan of Wimbledon and loves watching the matches. In her quieter moments, Barbara enjoys painting, reading, and listening to classical music, with a special fondness for the musicians who visit Ledbury Nursing Home.

When asked about her secret to longevity, Barbara credits both her love of ice cream and yoghurt, as well as her strong family genes. “Both my grandparents lived to a good old age,” she says with a smile.

Service Manager, Jane Pye, commented:
“We are so fortunate to have Barbara as a part of our Ledbury family. She is a true inspiration to us all. Her spirit, zest for life, and kindness make her an absolute joy to be around. We all love Barbara, and it was an honour to celebrate this incredible milestone with her.”
