Laureate Court Hosts Silver Screen Event To Celebrate Silver Sunday
Laureate Court Care Home in Rotherham, part of the Runwood Homes group, marked Silver Sunday on October 6th with a special “Silver Screen” cinema event, bringing residents, families, and staff together for a delightful afternoon. The event supported Age UK’s Silver Sunday initiative, a national day designed to combat loneliness among older adults by encouraging communities to host fun, free activities.
Staff at Laureate Court embraced the spirit of the day by dressing in usherette outfits and serving a variety of cinema-style snacks, including popcorn and sweets, to create an authentic movie theatre experience. The communal area was transformed into a cosy cinema where residents and guests enjoyed a screening of the classic film Casablanca, making it a nostalgic and heartwarming afternoon.
Laureate Court’s Senior Home Manager, Lisa Facer, expressed her pride in the event’s success, stating,
“We were proud to take part in the Silver Sunday celebrations with our Silver Screen event. It was wonderful to see the smiles on everyone’s faces and to have the opportunity to bring people together. Our aim was to create a warm and festive atmosphere where residents could share a special moment with their families.”
The event proved to be a great success, with families and staff praising the care home’s efforts in organising such a memorable day. Attendees highlighted the importance of social interaction for older people and appreciated the sense of community created during the celebration.
