Inspirational Care Figures Honoured At Awards
Care Campaign For the Vulnerable highlighted the wonderful work being carried out every day to deliver safe and compassionate care in homes across the country.
The Inspiration in Care Awards, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Gerrards Cross, celebrated everything that is great in the care sector, with families, care professionals and care providers all attending.
A number of individuals were honoured as ‘Inspirational Care Leaders’ including Andrew Geach CEO of Shedfield Lodge care home, Rachel Beckett, CEO of Wellburn care home, Robert Myers of Marbrook Centre, Dementia Care Trainer Sally Blackden, Trudi Schrivner of Ashridge Home Care and Paul Adams and Shaun Keep, founders of Say So.
Robert Myers was the first person to invite Care Campaign For The Vulnerable to visit a facility, the Marbrook Centre in Cambridgeshire, which had already adopted safety monitoring in communal areas. Andrew Geach and the team at Shedfield Lodge are also champions of safety monitoring in their care setting.
Say So is an organisation that works with the care sector, helping providers to reduce risks and improve standards and supporting employees to report concerns.
Long-time carer Kathy Smith of Shedfield Lodge was recognised as an ‘Inspiration in Care’ and Louise Paige, Joy Dey and Gina Begley acknowledged as ‘Inspirational Families in Care’.
Care Campaign For The Vulnerable founder Jayne Connery was proud to present the ‘Inspirational Individual’ award, named in memory of her late father Padraig O’Conaire, to Lola Idris. Lola spends her time handing out food to homeless people in London.
Jayne Connery said: “I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving. I’ve known Lola a while and she has been a big supporter of the Care Campaign For The Vulnerable. The work she undertakes, helped by friends and family, helping the homeless in London, she does with such love and kindness.
“It was a memorable evening and I’d like to pay tribute to all our inspirational winners and thank everyone who attended. I spend so much time hearing about the darker side of the care sector that to have the opportunity to recognise and thank those who are doing wonderful things was fantastic.”
The gala evening was hosted by ITV’s Rob Lamarr, with music by soprano girl group the Ida Girls and entertainment by impressionist and TV personality Jon Culshaw. Actress and CCFTV Ambassador Aimi MacDonald and Nadra Ahmed OBE of the National Care Association were special guests.
