Hull Home Celebrates 60th Anniversary By Planting Time Capsule Which Will Be Opened In 2083

A Hull home celebrated its 60th anniversary by planting a time capsule to be open 60 years later.

MHA Willersley House first opened in June 1963 and currently provides residential care for 34 people.

To mark the occasion the home had a week full of celebrations which included live entertainment.

However, the main part of the celebrations was the time capsule which included messages from staff and residents about life at the home and how things were in 2023, with the capsule scheduled to be open in 2083.

The capsule will be placed in the grounds of the home.

Jennifer Lawrence, home manager said: “We wanted to do something special to mark the 60th anniversary for the home and with the help of Wendy, the activity coordinator it took a fair few weeks to plan everything.

“We had something going on every day from a party to an opera singer, so the residents, staff and family members were entertained really well.

“The entertainment ranged from several eras including the 40’s,50’s and 60’s.

“We felt the time capsule was the best way to mark 60 years and we had some lovely letters and paragraphs from staff and residents.

“The purpose of the capsule is so people can look back through the letters and see what life was like in 2023.

“Hopefully the home will still be here but if it isn’t it will make people realise how important the home was to all of us.”
