Horse Therapy At The Cedars Care Home
The Cedars Care Home in Bourne was thrilled to receive another visit from therapy horse Darwin and his owner Brenda from Comfort Horse Therapy on Thursday. The miniature horse, just 34 inches tall, is a 7 year old falabella, who visited a very excited group of residents and visitors in the lounge before travelling the home to visit residents in their rooms. He even went up in the lift!
Residents were able to talk to, stroke and groom the horse, who was on his best behaviour throughout the 90 minute visit. He even wore beautiful shoes to keep the floor clean.
Senior General Manager Rebecca Aldred said: “Our residents really enjoy their unusual visitor. Darwin has become a main feature of our life enrichment program, and residents often ask when he is visiting next! We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have again seen the seen the enjoyment and the significant therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”
Resident Neil Owen really enjoyed seeing Darwin in the comfort of his own room: “I’ve never seen a horse this close before. Isn’t he lovely?’, whilst Dorothy Inkley said how much she had been looking forward to seeing him again.
